The Turning Point (2015)
In 2015, Selvi Mathews was diagnosed with cancer.
For one year, her life revolved around treatment, recovery, and uncertainty.
When she survived, she didn’t just feel grateful — she felt curious.
She asked a question many of us avoid:
Was the food I consumed truly nourishing — or slowly harming me?That question changed everything.
The Awakening (2020–2021)
Years later, when the pandemic forced her to leave her job and her husband returned from abroad, the couple faced a crossroads.
They owned agricultural land — rich with mango trees, hibiscus flowers, and traditional crops.
They decided to move there.
Not for comfort.
But for clarity and control over what they grow and consume.
Then came the defining moment.
When surplus mangoes were offered to a wholesale trader, they were told the fruits would be chemically treated to ripen overnight and sold in the market.
For someone who had battled cancer, that reality was unacceptable.
They made a decision that day:
No chemicals. No compromise. No silent participation in harmful practices.
The Transformation
Selvi enrolled in a value-addition course at Government Polytechnic College, Palakkad — learning to create squashes, jams, and pickles from farm produce.
What began as a way to prevent waste became something bigger.
Hibiscus flowers bloomed abundantly on her land year-round.
Instead of letting them fall unused, she transformed them into a naturally vibrant squash — rooted in tradition and known for its health benefits.
From there, Mathews Farm was born.
Not as a business first —
But as a commitment.
